#frugalfashionista: fine fingernails

Who doesn’t love getting a fresh gel manicure? When you’re as addicted to them as I am it can become a costly added expense. So maybe once in a while why not DIY? I found  OPI polish at a discount at marshalls, along with that I found a gel-like topcoat set. Results don’t last as long as a real gel manicure, but it’s not a bad alternative until you’re next manicure!

#frugalfashionista: black (and white) Friday deals!

Banana republic swoops me in again. I could not pass up their amazing mix of black and white prints and textures. Not only were they on sale, they were on double sale! Sale prices plus the additonal 40% off. Even my boyfriend walked away happy with 50% off original price sweaters.

What fashions did you guys find this Black Friday?

#frugalfashionista: fashioning your favorite rooms

In moving to Boston I needed a lot of new furniture. I swore I was done with my thrifting phase, however when my sister came to visit she pulled me into a thrifting trip. During this trip I came across two chairs that I saw so much potential for! One being only $4 and the other $2.50!!! I bought paint to re paint and then fabric to re-upholster. And voila after a few hours o had two beautiful chairs for my living room and bedroom!

If anything the fabric cost more than the chairs themselves! Though they weren’t expensive either.

I even had extra fabric to make a pillow for my bed

#frugalfashionista: essays with Emerson

After a Saturday full of shopping and great finds, Sunday’s morning is more tranquil.

My week had been bustling with preparations for meetings and design coordinations. The weekend was a shopping filled one and then topped off with Italian dining and entertainment. Today I woke up with the eagerness to start my day with me myself and I. I popped out of bed to change the k cup for a fresh one and then pushed the blue lit button for my fresh cup of a breakfast blend. On my way to the couch, I reached for my new-old copy of essays by Ralph Waldo Emerson in passing. After pulling aside my white drapes I fixed myself underneath the plush faux fur throw, reached for a few sips of the steaming coffee and then turned open the pages of my new book.

In truth he isn’t so new hence my “new old” reference earlier. It was a lucky and happy find at yesterday’s thrift store venture. With his signature on the cover and the publishing stamp from 1926 it was a find I would purchase in a heart beat, and I did for only $1.99. I love classic literature and transcendentalist writings. I have a nerdy weak spot for it.

So happy Sunday!

#frugalfashionista: show me the sample sale!!!

One of my favorite benefits as a fashion designer is that time of year when sample sale hits. That wonderful time when our corporate closets are too full of inspirational and production samples that we need to purge them. Thus they end up in the glorious sample sale for all to purchase for their own closets at a fraction of the cost. Severe savings!

Corporate employees had the advantage of pre-shopping the sale, and boy did I have a ball with that. I reached for some fall wardrobe updates and spent only $40 in round 1. Round 2 I brought my mom for when the sale was open to the public. What did I scoop up? 5 pairs of various flats, a cloche, jewelry, and some beautiful gifting items!

I left that sale feeling accomplished and spent no more than $200 on everything. What a treat! What a great new fall wardrobe too!

Shopping Justice sample sales were fun, but I’d have to say shopping the talbots sample sale was even better because I could actually shop for me this time around. And the quality 👌🏻
