#frugalfashionista: favorite fictions

Added yet another “new-old” book to my classics collection. She’s a 1928 edition of “Works of Leo Tolstoy.” I’m a sucker for classics, a true literary nerd.

Brattle book shop in downtown Boston made for a sweet nolstagic adventure and a cute little date for my boyfriend and I. Back in Ohio we had “half price books” visits as one of our favorite past times to do together. Moving to Boston I found a new quaint book shop to continue our past time tradition. They had an adventurous collection and an inviting set-up with two floors of books inside and a slew of deeply discounted books outside.

My find – $5

#frugalfashionista: essays with Emerson

After a Saturday full of shopping and great finds, Sunday’s morning is more tranquil.

My week had been bustling with preparations for meetings and design coordinations. The weekend was a shopping filled one and then topped off with Italian dining and entertainment. Today I woke up with the eagerness to start my day with me myself and I. I popped out of bed to change the k cup for a fresh one and then pushed the blue lit button for my fresh cup of a breakfast blend. On my way to the couch, I reached for my new-old copy of essays by Ralph Waldo Emerson in passing. After pulling aside my white drapes I fixed myself underneath the plush faux fur throw, reached for a few sips of the steaming coffee and then turned open the pages of my new book.

In truth he isn’t so new hence my “new old” reference earlier. It was a lucky and happy find at yesterday’s thrift store venture. With his signature on the cover and the publishing stamp from 1926 it was a find I would purchase in a heart beat, and I did for only $1.99. I love classic literature and transcendentalist writings. I have a nerdy weak spot for it.

So happy Sunday!

#frugalfashionista: thrifted treasures

Thrifting on a New England Sunday. My sister and dad came to visit me in boston during this long Columbus Day weekend and we made a trip to the thrift store to start out our Sunday.

My finds:

I fell absolutely in love with the charms on this necklace. It perfectly reflects my love for travel. Picking it up was a no brainer!

This was what really made my heart jump in excitement. It was a collection of Emily, Anne and Charlotte Bronte books. They were editions from 1922! I have a large place in my heart for classic novels and period films, so this was a heart warming find!

I also found two pics of furniture for my living room. Those I will share In a later post once they’ve been restored.

Today was a successful hunt.

#frugalfashionista : from one fashionista to others

I had been seeing this book over and over in other bloggers’ and illustrators’ pictures and decided to look it up. Written by a renowned fashion PR guru, it is a book for young and fresh fashionistas. She dishes the real of the industry to those entering. It’s also a good pick up for those already in the industry seeking motivation and looking to maybe reinvent themselves.

I found this lovely “literature” on amazon for $4 at the cheapest.

Not bad for another fashionista summer read!

#frugalfashionista: fashionista’s fiction finds

Half price books is one of my favorite hangouts. I could stay in there for hours. I almost never leave empty handed. Plus it’s summertime, time to find that perfect beach read.

My boss was talking about this book and it reminded me to pick it back up. It’s a fictional book about Ernest Hemingway’s wife and and their life together in Paris. I easily fall in love with period stories and have a piece of my heart in Paris, so naturally the two combined is perfect for me.

#frugalfashionista : #bossgirl

Great read. I’m already saying this and I’m not even done with it yet. So inspiring and yet humorous. I love stories that show come one coming above their tough situations. This is one of them. While I bought mine at Barnes you can most certainly find it for cheaper online. I was just too impatient to wait!

#frugalfashionista : fabulousity – fashionista’s fav read

Well it’s one of mine anyway. It’s like the fabulous and glamorous version of the book “the secret.” I’m not a super fan of Kimora lee Simmons but the book is plain awesome! It’s so inspiring and motivating. It’s a great confidence builder for those down days too. I’ve read it once and I’m reading it again after several years.

Stay fabulous!
