#frugalfashionista: fashionista’s fiction finds

Half price books is one of my favorite hangouts. I could stay in there for hours. I almost never leave empty handed. Plus it’s summertime, time to find that perfect beach read.

My boss was talking about this book and it reminded me to pick it back up. It’s a fictional book about Ernest Hemingway’s wife and and their life together in Paris. I easily fall in love with period stories and have a piece of my heart in Paris, so naturally the two combined is perfect for me.

#frugalfashionista : more macaroons pour moi

I’ve found it a rare sighting for macaroons in the states, even in the major metropolitan cities. Luckily I found one small bakery a city over that sells them, but they’re quite expensive, so when I buy from them it’s usually a special treat.

And Of course, after all my wishing that more bakeries in the states would take an interest in producing macaroons, I would stumble across them in the monopoly of a retailer who has “everything.” Never did I imagine that walmart of all places would carry these goodies.

Sure enough in their frozen dessert section sits a box of 12 macaroons. I finally thawed them out today for my after dinner treat. They aren’t nearly as divine as fresh ones but they do the trick and are still quite tasty. Feeling a little nostalgic for Paris? Here you go…

#frugalfashionista : mcdonalds macaroon mania

Ok so laduree is a must when vacationing in Paris, but if you’ve “been there done that” then you know there’s no need to be paying 2.5 euros per one macaroon!

I love laduree for all it’s splendor, but I also love macaroons, but I don’t love the idea of spending all my money on so few. Well lucky for you almost every mcdonalds in Europe has an exquisite extension of a mc cafe that we don’t have in the states. And that mc cafe in Paris includes one that has macaroons….and at 4.5 euros for 6 pieces! Sounds better doesn’t it? They still taste quite yummy too for their value.

#frugalfashionista : souvenir savings

As promised in an earlier post, im sharing my little souvenir finds!

You know, those same old cheesy souvenirs of shot glasses, mugs, hats, keychains, tshirts, monument replicas…..and on and on. But you can’t help but fall for them because you want something to keep for memory. They might be cheesy, but if you pick the right ones they can still be meaningful and quite nostalgic, instead of the annoying dust collectors that you eventually shove away in a box.

1.Loved him! For one I love cats, two I love and drink coffee religiously and three “chat noir” is quite iconic for Paris. Who doesn’t want a vintage Cabernet slapped on their morning coffee?

2. Remember when baby spice made the British flag dress such a hot statement in the 90s? Well baby spice, I’m going to make this hat the next one! Ok so maybe I don’t have that much convincing power but I still couldn’t get over this hat for myself. I liked the neutral colors with the red pop and most of all I liked the iconic British flag.

3.Everything is cuter in mini size! Vespas are all over Europe! Picked one up for my sister and a friend. They were just so adorable and very reminiscent of the culture in Rome.

This is the kind of gift for someone who appreciates tradition and something a little more artsy- crafty. I thought the hand painted tile was beautiful and the illustration a good representation of a Spanish tradition.

Don’t be afraid to be the cliche tourist every once in a while. Pick wisely, things that are an emotional purchase for you and you’ll have souvenirs that could bring on a smile of memories for a lifetime!
